Amazon Canada continued its giving ways to the Toys for Tots campaign in Mississauga and Brampton, this year contributing more than $90,000 and truck loads of toys for kids in need in Peel Region.

“Over the last few years Amazon Canada has been a tremendous partner during our Toys for Tots campaign, raising over $300,000 to support the initiative,” Peel Regional Police said on Twitter. “Thank you for your continued support.”

Toys for Tots began 30 years ago when Peel Police, Canadian Tire and the Salvation Army teamed up to create the campaign.

In the early years officers collected donations in water jugs to purchase new toys for underprivileged children within the community and deliver a message of “hope and encouragement” to the kids and their families.

Last year the campaign raised nearly $1 million for families in need – Amazon contributed $86,000 in toys and cash donations in 2022 – and donated toys to more than 10,000 children in the region.

On November 13 the 2023 campaign kicked off and Peel Police say the initiative has grown “beyond anything we could have imagined.”

“The past three years have been challenging for all of us but as our region has slowly opened up, we are hopeful that this season will be a very successful one.”

Those who wish to contribute can donate new unwrapped toys or gift cards or make an online donation.

You can drop off toys at any of the following locations:

“This is a campaign that means a lot to the families involved; we feel honoured to be able to help with putting smiles on children’s faces this Christmas,” said co-chairs Constable Taryn Young and Constable Jennifer Bissell. “We are looking forward to eventful year and we’re hoping to make a lot of families and children happy this Christmas.”

“Peel Region is filled with so many generous and caring people and that truly shows with Toys for Tots.”
