Police say there’s no truth to claims that the alleged killer of Brampton rapper Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead in California last month.

The fatal shooting happened in Fresno, Calif. on April 30 when the Fresno Police Department says shots were fired with reports saying the incident followed a fight.

Two men were shot including one who suffered critical injuries and later died in hospital.

Following the shooting posts began circulating online claiming the deceased victim was Satinderjeet Singh “Goldy Brar” Brar – one of Canada’s 25 most-wanted fugitives in 2023 and the subject of an Interpol red notice for his alleged involvement in the murder of Wala.

But those claims were “absolutely not true,” according to Fresno Lt. William Dooley in a report in the Hindustan Times. Investigators later confirmed the victim was a 37-year-old man named Xavier Gladney.

The son of a former police officer in India, the 29-year-old Brar moved to Canada on a student visa between 2017 and 2019, according to media outlets in India.

Wala sustained some 19 gunshot wounds in the shooting and was pronounced dead a short time later. He was a controversial figure in India and was charged in 2020 under India’s Arms Act for allegedly promoting gun culture in one of his songs.

Brar claimed responsibility for the killing of Wala in a Facebook post, saying the attack was retaliation for the death of a political party leader in India. Brar is wanted for several charges including murder, criminal conspiracy, and supply of illegal firearms, with Interpol issuing a red notice against him in 2022.

He is also believed to be a ranking member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has ties to extortion cases targeting members of the South Asian community in Brampton, Mississauga and in several other provinces across Canada.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Satinderjeet Singh “Goldy Brar” Brar is asked to contact their local police service, the RCMP or Interpol. You can also leave an anonymous tip by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting www.canadiancrimestoppers.org.
