Alleged cheque fraud results in charges for Clarington man

A Clarington man is facing charges after an alleged attempt to cash a fraudulent cheque.

Per Durham Police, the man went to the 1360 Kingston Rd. Money Mart in Pickering on April 8. They allege the man tried to withdraw $3,500 with a fraudulent cheque. However, the staff believed the man had already cashed fake cheques in the past and called the police.

Nithiyananthan Shanmuganathan, 48 of Clarington is charged with fraud and use of forged documents. He’s been release with conditions.
