Those planning on heading out to celebrate the New Year tonight can do so with ease.
Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, Hamilton and surrounding regions are offering free bus and train rides before and after the big party.
Here are the transit routes and times for your complimentary ride:
Officials at MiWay, Mississauga’s public transit provider, say passengers can ride the buses free of charge from 7 p.m. tonight until 4 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 1.
MiWay is also offering extended late-night service until 2 a.m. on Monday morning on the following routes:

Brampton Transit also begins its free ride offerings after 7 p.m., tonight. The transportation service says they will follow a Sunday/holiday schedule.
Extended service is available on various routes until approximately 1:30 a.m., and others will run until 3:00 a.m.

Tonight Oakville Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule with free rides beginning at 7 p.m. and extended service until 10 p.m.
Late-night service from Oakville GO will be available after 10 p.m., with the last departure at 12:35 a.m.
Burlington Transit will extend its service on Route 1 Plains-Fairview and all late-night routes.
Route 1 is expected to run every 30 minutes, with the last bus departing Hamilton at 1 a.m. and Appleby GO at 1:15 a.m.
Routes 50, 51, and 52 will depart Burlington GO every 60 minutes, from 8:56 p.m. to 12:56 a.m.
The HSR (Hamilton Street Railway) is offering free rides after 6 p.m. tonight.
Officials at HSR say the extended service applies only to routes operating past 10 p.m. This includes routes 10 and 20. All other routes will operate on Sunday’s regular schedule.
On New Year’s day, Sunday’s transit schedule offering will end at 10 p.m.
Meanwhile, GO Transit is also offering free all-night service to riders on New Year’s Eve into the following morning.
Both GO train and GO bus rides will be free to all customers from 7 p.m. tonight until 8 a.m. Monday morning.
“In addition, GO Transit will run extra late-evening trips into Union Station in Toronto to help customers travelling downtown as well as a variety of special trains from Union Station after midnight to help them get home safely,” the transit agency said in a news release.
Extra trips will be offered on:
- the Lakeshore East and West GO lines — trains will depart regularly from Union Station from 12:30 a.m. until 7:30 a.m.
- the Kitchener Line — trains will depart Union Station regularly from 12:35 a.m. until 5:35 a.m.
- the Milton Line (which has a number of Mississauga stops) — two additional trips heading westbound to Milton GO at 1:25 a.m. and 3:55 a.m.
In addition, GO’s UP Express, the train service connecting Pearson Airport in Mississauga and downtown Toronto, will be free to passengers after 7 p.m. with the last UP Express train departing Union at 11 p.m. and 11:27 p.m. at Pearson.
Extra GO bus service is also planned for New Year’s Eve, transit officials note.
Free transit service is also offered on the TTC on New Year’s Eve.
Customers are encouraged to continue tapping on and off their train or bus, but they will not be charged and will see $0 on the display.
