All 14 Durham beaches from Beaverton to Newcastle declared safe in first test of season

So far, so good for Durham Region’s beaches with the first beach report of the season declaring all 14 public beaches safe for swimming.

Throughout the summer Durham’s Health Department tests waters at public beaches as part of its beach monitoring program. Tests carried out at all beaches include testing water samples for high levels of bacteria to let visitors know which beaches are safe for swimming. Unless otherwise indicated, results reflect routine, weekly monitoring conducted by Health Department staff.

Testing for the week of June 5 showed all 14 beaches passed.

Public swimming beaches in Durham Region include:

• Paradise Beach (Ajax)
• Beaverton North, Beaverton South and Thorah Centennial Park (Brock)
• Bowmanville East, Bowmanville West and Newcastle Beach Central (Clarington)
• Lakeview Beach East and Lakeview Beach West (Oshawa)
• Frenchman’s Bay East and Frenchman’s Bay West (Pickering)
• Kinsmen Beach (Scugog)
• Whitby Beach – Heydenshore Park and Iroquois Beach (Whitby)

Elgin Pond in Uxbridge is no longer monitored as there is no longer a public beach at the location.
