After a short, five-week campaign, the federal election has arrived, and Canadians are heading to the polls.

Due to a significant increase in the number of voters choosing to mail in their ballots because of the pandemic, the results aren’t expected to be announced on Monday (September 20), and it could be until as late as Thursday or even Friday before a winner is declared.

However, according to the latest projections from 338 Canada, it appears the Liberal Party of Canada is likely to sweep Peel Region.

According to the polls, all five Brampton ridings are expected to vote Liberal. Brampton Centre, North, South, and West are all considered “safe” that the Liberal candidate will win the seat, while Brampton East is considered “likely.”

In Mississauga, three of the six ridings, Mississauga Centre, Mississauga—Erin Mills, and Mississauga—Malton, are considered “safe” for a Liberal victory, while the other three, Mississauga East—Cooksville, Mississauga—Lakeshore, and Mississauga—Streetsville, are considered likely.

A Liberal victory across the board in Brampton and Mississauga wouldn’t be unprecedented, as all 11 ridings elected the Liberal candidate in the previous election in 2019.
