Ajax drivers will soon have their speed monitored automatically and receive tickets in the mail if caught speeding.

The Town will install cameras in community safety zones to snap photos of speeding drivers’ licence plates. Three stations will be rotated between 12 zones around town.

The first three spots chosen are Delaney Drive, Williamson Drive East and Magill Drive. The Town posted “coming soon” signs describing the cameras’ locations. The signs will also rotate between locations 90 days in advance to warn motorists.

Ajax is hosting a meeting for public feedback about the program on November 30. Ajax residents who wish to attend the virtual meeting need to register.

The cameras are part of Durham Region’s Vision Zero road safety program. The long-term plan will see cameras and other safety feature installed throughout the Region. The goal is to reduce collisions that cause death or injury by 10 per cent by 2023.
