Ajax man in custody on second degree murder charge after senior found dead
An 83-year-man is dead after he suffered "significant trauma." One is in custody in connection to his death.

A man from Ajax is in custody on a second-degree murder charge after an 83-year-old man was found stabbed to death in town.

Durham Region Police responded to the Griffiths Dr to address reports of a family dispute around 5 p.m. June 6. While police say only the man was found suffering “significant trauma” early reports indicate the man had been stabbed.

The victim had no vital signs when officer arrived and was pronounced dead on scene. Police arrested a suspect at the home. He and the victim knew each other.

Homicide detectives and forensic investigators are at the scene. They believe this was an isolated incident, and seek no further suspects.

John Larter, 40 of Ajax, is charged with Second Degree Murder.

The June 6 slaying is the seventh murder in Durham Region in 2022 so far. In 2021 it took until October to reach seven killings. Last year saw nine total murders in the Region, the same amount as 2020, following two deaths over the holidays.
