Ajax man faces over two dozen charges after a string of break and enters across Durham, Peel and York Regions

A man from Ajax has been charged with 30 offences after a string of break-and-enters and car thefts in Durham, Peel and York Regions.

Officers from York Regional Police and Durham Regional police began a co-operative investigations into a string of break-and enters in both areas in October. In each instance hydro panels had been opened and wires cut, killing power to the targeted home.

The crimes continued with numerous B-and-Es and cars stolen in Ajax, Bolton, King, and Vaughan between October 2021 and January 2022. The investigation concluded that all these crimes were committed by the same suspect, linking that suspect to three stolen cars.

As they investigated, police came to believe the man was connected with at least four more burglaries in Durham Region.

Sean Mackey, 45 of Ajax was arrested January 6. He has been charged with 30 offenses including:

  • Break and Enter with Intent x3
  • Break and Enter and Commit x9
  • Mischief Over $5,000 x7
  • Mischief Under $5,000 x3
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Theft Under $5,000
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle x3
  • Breach of Probation  x2
  • Trespass By Night
