Ajax man charged for allegedly hiring prostitutes and refusing to pay them

Pay your prostitutes or pay the piper in court is the message Durham Police gave an Ajax man after he had sexual intercourse with two different sex professionals before allegedly refusing to pay the bill.
The 32-year-old is facing three counts of theft under $5,000 and three counts of obtaining sexual services after one woman complained to police about him skipping the bill after sex and a second came forward and reported two similar incidents involving the same suspect.
Human Trafficking Unit officers learned of the incidents in February and, after an investigation, laid the charges against Janarthanan Sathianathan.
The suspect was released on an undertaking.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have had contact with the suspect and experienced similar incidents to contact investigators.
Sathianathan was also accused of ripping off families in a contractor fraud case that is still before the courts.

Multiple families have come forward to allege contractor fraud against Ajax-based Trusted Remodelling after giving owner Sathianathan (aka Jay Nathan) nearly $40,000 collectively for work they claim Sathianathan later abandoned.
The allegations stretch back to January 2021,
Investigators in the prostitution case want to remind the community of the 2013 Supreme Court decision that ruled Canada’s laws in relation to prostitution were considered unconstitutional. The laws were changed to provide a layer of safety for those involved in the sex trade. However, the purchase of these services continues to be illegal.
The sex trade is still considered a high-risk lifestyle, and police say those involved in the industry can access a number of available resources.
