An Ajax woman who has turned a connective tissue disorder into a career as a contortionist and a Whitby magician considered one of the best in the world at his craft are two of 82 acts that have qualified for the second season of Canada’s Got Talent.

Season 1, filmed at Niagara Fallsview Casino’s Avalon Theatre, brought in 1.3 million viewers a week, making it Citytv’s most-watched original show in more than ten years. Quebec singer Jeanick Fournier was the Season 1 winner.

The brand new 5,000-seat OLG Stage in Niagara Falls is the new host for the show, which premiers March 21 and is hosted by singer Lindsay Ell.

Judges Howie Mandel, Lilly Singh, Kardinal Offishall and Trish Stratus will have seen nearly 500 acts before a new champion is crowned at a two-hour live finale, featuring the final eight acts, May 16.

The winner, who collects a top prize of $150,000, will be determined by public votes.

Flexy T of Ajax

Toria Summerville, who bills herself as a contortionist, acrobat and actor and goes by the stage name Flexy T, has turned a diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome – a disorder where the body fails to make stable collagen – into a career as a circus performer capable of incredible feats of flexibility.

Summerville’s childhood was difficult but she began to understand what her body was capable off in high school, thanks to an understanding coach and mentor.

Early diagnosis of what is called the ‘invisible illness’ would have helped a lot, the Ajax resident said in a documentary about the disorder called ‘Bend or Break. “My life would have been a whole lot easier if I had known about EDS earlier.”
