Casino Ajax has given its host their share of the winnings in the gambling centre’s second quarterly payment.

The town earned $1,424,015 between July 1 and September 30.

The town projected in February’s 2021 budget that annual Casino revenue would continue to fall to roughly $3.7 million because of the pandemic. Today’s payment would put annual revenues on pace to be closer to last year’s $5.7 million range.

Pre-pandemic yearly revenues in 2018 and 2019 were almost $7.4 million each year.

The payments are mandated through Municipality Contribution Agreements which send a percentage of gambling profits to the host town.

Payment have continued through out the pandemic despite casino closure across the province. Gambling facilities were able to resume operation in July 2021, with some delayed until August.

Through this agreement, Ajax has received $95 million dollars since 2006. Host towns throughout Ontario have received $1.76 billion in such payments.

Ajax MPP Rod Phillips, who has recently returned to a cabinet position after resigning his finance post when it was revealed he took international vacations during lockdown, said his government is “pleased” that land-based casinos have “reopened safely and are contributing to our provincial economy again.”
