Air Canada flight spends seven hours in the air only to return to Pearson

Travellers flying out of Pearson Airport in Mississauga on board Air Canada flights must now be at the airport half-an-hour earlier than before.

Starting today (Oct. 13), Air Canada passengers much check in at the counter 90 minutes before their flight is scheduled to depart. Previously, they had to do so 60 minutes prior to takeoff.

The check-in and baggage drop-off time applies to all passengers, whether heading on a short trip to the U.S. or a longer flight to parts around the world.

Air Canada officials say the move is intended to reduce congestion at security checkpoints and customs areas inside the airport.

Additionally, to move people faster, the carrier has introduced a new queue system for security and customs for flights leaving for the U.S. prior to 12 noon each day.

Many travellers at Pearson have complained the past several months of huge lineups, lengthy waits and overall chaos inside airport terminals.
