After three consecutive days with just one new COVID-19 case in Niagara Region, things jumped up somewhat today (August 5) with five new cases being reported.

With just two cases resolved, that also bumped the existing cases in the region up to 52.

While just three municipalities in Niagara (Fort Erie, Port Colborne and Wainfleet) have zero cases, Welland pushed past Niagara Falls as the number two hot-spot with eight cases as opposed to Niagara Falls’ seven.

As the most populous city in the region, St Catharines still leads the pack with 13 cases, though it should be noted things are on the decline since as little as a week ago, they had 18 cases.

With 629,374 Niagara residents being vaccinated so far, 70.3 per cent have had a single jab while 61 per cent are fully vaccinated.
