Lucky is just one of the animals in need of a good home at Brampton Animal Services.

Brampton Animal Services is looking for prospective pet parents who want to add a new furry or feathered member to their family.

Monday marks National Pet Day, and there is no shortage of critters who need a good home in Brampton.

Interested adopters can check out the Animal Services website to view all the animals currently up for adoption, like feline Lucky the domestic shorthair.

“He likes to chat at times but for the most part is a quiet guy who likes to keep things low key,” Lucky’s adoption page reads.

Cats not your thing? Then consider gentle giant Trudy – a 2-year-old Great Dane with a bark much worse than her bite.

“We aren’t sure where Trudy came from, but we are sure that she didn’t get a lot of socialisation. She took a long time to warm up to us when she first came in…now loves walks and playing outside, is obsessed with big stuffed toys and isn’t as fearful when a big truck drives by on a walk anymore,” according to her bio.

But becoming a pet parent is no small commitment.

Many adopted pets need time and patience to warm up to their new environments, and some adoptable dogs will require obedience training prior to adoption.

Adoption fees start at $5.00 for small animals and birds, and can be as high as $200 for dogs.

Prospective adopters should visit the Brampton Animal Services website to view a listing of all the animals awaiting their forever homes.

Once you’ve identified a furry friend you’d like to adopt, contact Animal Services and fill out a request for including animal number and name.

Animal Service also has a special Barn Cat Adoption Program which pairs cat lovers who own a barn or other secure outdoor structures with cats that prefer the outdoors or have an inability to adjust to life at the shelter.

There is no fee for adopting barn cats, while donations are appreciated to cover the cost of medical treatment.
