A business in Acton recently received a grant for over $8,000 from the Community Improvement Program (CIP) Façade Improvement Grant Program to support renovations to their storefront.
The business, called Acton Discount, located at 52 Mill St. East, received a cheque for $8,762 that was presented by Mayor Rick Bonnette and Ward 1 Councillors on Oct. 4.
Acton Discount has been owned by SangWon Bak’s family since 2004. In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, both SangWon and his wife took over the business.
The duo then joined the Acton Business Improvement Area (BIA) committee as they were looking to improve the store’s features to enhance the customer experience.
The grant will help to support improvements including the restoration of the historic brick, fresh paint and a new sign.
“We are delighted to be supporting façade improvements to so many local businesses in downtown Acton,” said Mayor Bonnette. “These collective efforts truly help to improve the overall experience for visitors.”
The CIP provides incentives to eligible businesses by providing grants and loan programs to encourage revitalization, attract additional private sector investment, fast-track the redevelopment of properties and support local jobs.
