A 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with manslaughter on Friday in relation to the shooting death of 14-year-old Mississauga girl Taffash Riley.

Hours after a Canada-wide warrant was issued for him, the Peel Regional Police said that Michael Moncherry-Desir is in custody.

Moncherry-Desir, of no fixed address, will appear in a Brampton court on Saturday to answer to the charges.

On Feb. 1, Riley was found suffering from a gunshot wound in a stairwell of her family’s Darcel Ave./Etude Dr. apartment building in the Malton area of Mississauga. Despite efforts by first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not said what circumstances led to the teenage girl’s death. They have also not revealed whether there was any prior relationship between the shooter and the victim.
