Mississauga’s New Year’s Eve event at Celebration Square is one of the biggest and most highly-anticipated city-run events of the year and this year, for the first time ever, it’s introducing a brand new event.

This year’s NYE 2018 event boasts a commendable lineup of Canadian talent, food trucks, fireworks and the brand new New Year’s Eve jr.

NYE jr. will commence at 8:00 p.m. and wrap up at 9:00 p.m. As for what to expect, the city says kids of all ages can hit the NYE jr. dancefloor with dancers, interactive lighting, roaming kid-focused entertainment and a junior-sized countdown.

“New Year’s Eve has always been a family friendly event, but ringing in the New Year itself happens after bedtime for most kids. We wanted to create something that would allow kids to join in the fun,” says Amy Butoiske, programmer, Celebration Square.

Butoiske says the hour-long party will feature a kids dance party with a family DJ and emcee, dancers, and a giant LED robot.

“We’re also planning a kid-sized countdown to the New Year at 9:00 p.m, so that kids can enjoy the event, and still make it home for bed,” she says.

Since the Square is typically teeming with families, parents are already pretty enthused about the new event.

“People have responded really positively – our kids programming at the Square is always a highlight for residents and families,” says Butoiske. “We expect New Year’s Eve junior to be a hit with residents and families this year, and we’re hoping it becomes an integral part of our annual celebration.”
