There is a thunderstorm warning in effect for Mississauga, Brampton, and the Halton region.

As of 2:30 p.m. today (July 23), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong winds and up to nickel size hail and torrential rainfall.

“Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles,” the statement read.

There is a possibility that large pieces of hail can do extensive damage to properties and cause injuries to residents.

Heavy rain can also cause flash floods and pooling on roads.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that if individuals see threatening weather conditions approaching, to take cover immediately.

Residents are asked to keep an eye out for further alerts issued by Environment Canada.
