A store that closed during the rise of the pandemic has returned to the Burlington Centre.

Miniso, which features low-cost consumer items such as toys, cosmetics, electronics, fashion and lifestyle brands, reopened last week on the first level of the mall near Bluenotes.

“Me & my boyfriend spent an unacceptable amount of money on Hello Kitty blind boxes the day they reopened lol,” one Reddit user said.

Originating in China and stocked with many Japanese-inspired products, Miniso has grown rapidly since its launch in 2013 and has since expanded globally with 5,00 stores and several Canadian locations including those in Oakville and Hamilton.

Its approach is to serve its customers in a “fun and lighthearted” way by presenting a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere “that is meant to make you happy.”

The store promotes itself as a “low-cost, high-quality” retailer and promises that new and different products arrive weekly to keep customers interested and coming back.

The approach appears to be working.

“I was so disappointed when they closed (in Burlington) and so happy that they have returned,” said another social media user. “They sell things that nobody else has.”

Brands that the store is associated with include Coca-Cola, Marvel, Hello Kitty, Sesame Street, Mickey and Minnie, Pink Panther, We Bare Bears and Beijing’s Palace Museum.

Prices are similar to what you find at stores like Dollarama.

The store is open during regular mall hours which are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
