A look at what October weather may bring to southern Ontario

The calendar has flipped to September, signalling the shift into fall. While this month brings cooler and wetter conditions, the October forecast could hint at an early start to winter in southern Ontario.

According to the Farmers’ Almanac, Oct. 1 to 3 will start sunny with cool daytime highs.

From Oct. 4 to 10, a few showers are expected alongside continued brisk conditions.

Those planning Thanksgiving gatherings will want to note that Oct. 11 to 15 may bring a split pattern, with sunshine in the northwest and rain in the southeast, paired with a warmer air mass.

Between Oct. 16 and 20, a few thunderstorms are possible with warmer-than-usual conditions.

The final stretch of the month, from Oct. 21 to 31, is expected to start sunny before giving way to rain and the possibility of early snow, lining up with Halloween as trick-or-treaters head out.

The Farmers ‘ Almanac says the average temperatures for October will be near 9 C, about 1 C below normal for this time of year.

Rainfall is expected to total 65 mm, about 10 mm below average, though overall precipitation for the fall is forecast to be above normal.
