Talk about having a prayer answered right away — and in a big way.
Looking to check her Ontario 49 lottery ticket while at the store, Mississauga’s Rubina Ali turned it over to the clerk and then quickly sought some divine intervention.
“I handed it to the clerk and said a little prayer to myself. When I saw ‘Big Winner,’ I was calm, but the clerk was so excited. I didn’t know what was going on,” Ali, who’s 65 and retired, shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her $2 million, the top prize in the Sept. 27 Ontario 49 draw.
The Mississauga grandmother said she began cheering when the clerk handed her the slip that read “$2 million.”
“I always wondered how I would react in that moment. I was so excited and filled with pleasure, but my feet were firmly on the ground,” Ali recalled.
The lucky winner said she’s been playing the lottery bi-weekly for the past year.
“I love to play the $1 draws like Ontario 49,” she said.
Ali added that she plans to settle into her new reality before making any decision about spending the winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart, on City Centre Drive in Mississauga.
