The splash pad at a Hamilton park will be replaced, thanks to a half-million dollar Ontario Trillium Foundation grant.

THe City of Hamilton announced today (Aug. 17) that construction is expected to begin later this fall on a new splash pad in Eastwood Park (111 Burlington St. E.) in the north end, in Ward 2. The project will replace an existing spray pad, and support the popular Supie program, a long-running drop-in recreational program that the city holds in local parks.

The $500,000 grant from the OTF will go toward replacing the existing spray pad with a new concrete pad and spray features. Following public consultation, which wrapped up earlier this summer, the new spray pad will take on an aquatic theme. Features will include such as an upright tree, aquatic creature spray rings, boat wheel, as well as various ground jets and coloured concrete paving.

Construction is expected to occur over the next year in order for the City to open the new spray pad in the summer of 2023.

“A new spray pad and other improvements in Eastwood Park will help keep our kids happy, healthy and active,” Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger stated today. “Thank you to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for helping to us to renew our wonderful park while supporting good-paying jobs for people working on the project.”

Spray pads are free to use and are open until early September. They can be located at hamilton.ca/spraypads.
