Some Brampton residents endured a bit of a rude awakening last week, as they discovered a set of Canada Post mailboxes had been violently vandalized and had their contents stolen. The incident, which was originally posted on Reddit, drew the attention of not only residents but also, the Peel Regional Police.

According to the post, the incident allegedly took place near Countryside Dr and Goreway Dr, near the northeast edges of Brampton proper. The photo shows what appears to be a rushed plundering of several mailboxes, with some remaining intact and untouched.

“This is all over Ontario, not Brampton specific,” read one comment posted by the post’s author.

When contacted about the incident, Peel Regional Police told insuaga.com that they had received a collection of reports from Canada Post regarding a string of mailbox thefts and vandalizations throughout the Peel Region.

“There appear to be approximately 5 reports, that indicate damage to mailboxes in the northeast end of Brampton, believed to have occurred between June 5 and June 12, 2024.  There is no suspect information,” Peel Regional Police representatives old insauga.com via email.

“My neighborhood has been terrorized with this happening repeatedly for several months in 2023 and 2022. What you should do is contact Canada Post and report this to them,” read one comment on the initial Reddit post.

Peel Regional Police representatives informed insauga.com that due to the trending frequency of these thefts, the 21 Division of their Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) is launching an active investigation. Law enforcement officials urge anyone with information on these incidents to contact the CIB.
