Ronaled Murrell was on his way home from having a coffee with his daughter when he stopped to pick up a lottery ticket.

The 88-year-old Burlington resident decided to buy the Crossword Tripler, one of his favourite scratch tickets.

“I purchased the last two tickets they had in stock,” Murrell explained. When she scratched he found out he was $100,000 richer

When he discovered he won big, Murrell said he checked his ticket five times to make sure it wasn’t a mistake. He called his daughter, saying, “I have to show you something!” and surprised her with the win. He then shared the news with the rest of his family. “They were all so excited for me,” he said.

The father of three now plans to help his family and enjoy some horse racing with his winnings.

“It’s a great feeling when you win,” he said.

The instant Crossword Tripler is available for $5 a play and the top prize is $100,000. Odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.81.

The winning ticket was purchased at Husky on Lakeshore Rd. in Burlington.
