A Stratford man who allegedly smashed a car window with an imitation gun in an act of road rage in Oshawa, has been hit with four criminal charges, including assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

Durham Police say the victim in the incident was travelling eastbound near Thickson Road in Whiby on Saturday when he noticed the driver behind him was becoming “increasingly agitated” and appeared to have thrown an object at his car.

The victim followed the suspect off the highway to the Bloor St. W and Park Rd. S area where they stopped and police say the suspect then produced an imitation gun and proceeded to begin “smashing the driver side window and mirror” of the victim’s car.

The victim was able to get away and the suspect fled the area.

A Criminal Code search warrant was subsequently executed at a Stratford residence following the incident and with the help of the Central East Community Response Team, investigators were able to make the arrest in Stratford.

Police were also able to seize an imitation firearm and the clothing worn at the time of the offence.

Simon Macleod-Walden, 31, was held for a bail hearing.
