Tensions in the Middle-East could reverberate in Hamilton, police say

Hamilton residents are being asked for information after a worker in the east end was threatened with a firearm during a robbery on Thursday night (Feb. 2).

The Hamilton Police (HPS) say that the robbery occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 at a business in the Barton St. E. / Sanford Ave. N. area. The suspect reportedly showed a gun, and after receiving cash, ran to the east (the direction of Lake Ontario).

“The suspect approached the lone employee and brandished a firearm while demanding money,” HPS stated. The suspect fled on foot eastbound on Barton Street East with an undisclosed amount of money.

“There were no physical injuries sustained during this robbery.”

The statement did not mention any description of the robber or their clothing. In the past, dashcam footage from drivers who were in the area at the time, or home surveillance footage from nearby businesses and homes, has helped investigators with HPS make arrests and lay charges.

Anyone who has information on the identity of the suspect or any other information that you believe could assist police with the investigation into this crime is asked to contact Det.-Const. Michael Suffoletta (905-961-8936) or Det.-Sgt Shane Groombridge (905-546-2991).
