Officers from the Caledon OPP were in the area of Hwy. 10 and Charleston Side Rd. around 8:30 p.m. when they saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, police said in a statement.

That’s when police say the driver attempted to flee from police before taking off on foot.

Police searched the area and the suspect, a 21-year-old from Stoney Creek, was located and arrested shortly after the incident, police said.

The OPP says the driver’s ability was impaired.

Devan Butler, 21, of Stoney Creek has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – Community Zone
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

Police say the vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver’s license has been suspended for a period of 90 days. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on Feb. 23. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
