Hamilton cycling trail between downtown and the Mountain to have closures next week

Cyclists. strollers and rollers in Hamilton who count on the Keddy Access Trail (KAT) to get around will have to choose alternative routes next week.

Crews are repairing railings that separate cyclists from drivers, so the city will the trail between the Hunter St. E. entrance and the Arkledun Ave. trail connection from Monday till next Friday. The crews will be working from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, weather permitting, with the trail reopening each afternoon.

Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to access the Keddy Access Trail between Southam Park (Tanner St.) and the Arkledun Ave trail connection.

The 2.1-km trail runs across the Clarmemont Access roadway between the lower city and the mountain. Along with the connection at Arkledun, the other side connections to the KAT are at Tanner St. through Southam Park; West Ave. (near Wellington St.) and St. Joseph’s Dr.

Temporary snow fencing will be in place during these closures. Along with railing repairs, workers will also be performing general maintenance such as sweeping and graffiti removal.

The Hamilton Street Railway transit line has a Mountain Climber Program which offers cyclists free rides up and down the escarpment year-round. Participating stops and routes can be found at hamilton.ca/mountainclimber.
