Demonstrations shut down major roads in Mississauga.

Police say a Mississauga man who is currently on parole is facing gun and drug-related charges.

On Dec. 5, Peel police said that officers charged a suspect after a loaded firearm and illicit drugs were allegedly located inside a residence in Mississauga on Dec. 1. According to police, officers found a Glock 9mm semi-automatic restricted firearm, ammunition, cocaine and more.

Police say the gun and drugs were discovered after Specialized Enforcement Bureau officers, assisted by tactical rescue officers, executed a search warrant at the residence in question.

Police say Thamilarasan Velauther, 29, has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, possession for the purpose of trafficking and more.

Police say a parole warrant was also executed, as the accused was out on parole for previous firearm-related charges.

He was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

“People who possess illegal firearms have little regard for community safety, so it isn’t surprising that they aren’t concerned about conditions of parole,” said Nick Milinovich, Peel Regional Police Deputy Chief, Investigative and Emergency Services Command, in a statement.

“This is a reality. Fortunately, another reality is our service is committed to ensuring these people are returned to jail.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators with the Specialized Enforcement Bureau at (905)453-2121 ext. 3515.
