Cyber attack recovery underway at schools from Pickering to Oshawa

The Durham District School Board is still working on restoring critical services following Friday’s cyber attack and has restored some critical services as of Tuesday night.
In an update posted on November 29, the Board said it is continuing to work to restore the critical services that have been down since Saturday.
As of Tuesday evening, they had managed to restore some of their internal phone services. However, not all locations are back online and remind parents and guardians they may continue to have trouble reaching the school by phone.
The Board continued they had restored some of their infrastructure for online schooling and would post another update at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
“Our first priority is on restoring systems that support critical school and business operations, and to support student learning. At the same time, work is underway to investigate what happened, the extent of the impact, and if there are privacy concerns. This work is complex and will take a significant amount of time,” DDSB explained.
The breach was discovered Saturday and the Board’s IT team has been working to restore services ever since. The attack caused the cancellation of online classes on Monday and Tuesday.

DDSB is working to ensure their workers will still be paid on time. They have also established an FAQ document with more information for parents and guardians.
