Hamilton man faces attempted murder charge after shooting in the Muskokas

Police have charged a Hamilton man with attempted murder related to a shooting in the Muskokas last month.

The Huntsville OPP say officers were called to a property on South Lancelot Rd. in the town of Huntsville for reports of a gunshot around 2:20 p.m. on Sept. 19.

Police say there was a dispute between two individuals and a gunshot was reportedly heard.

A 42-year-old was charged with possession of a schedule one substance related to the incident, and police now also arrested and charged a 53-year-old Hamilton man.

Patrick Ireland, 53, of Hamilton has been charged with:

  • Attempt murder contrary to section 239 (1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Point firearm contrary to section 87 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Discharge firearm with intent contrary to section 244 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is being held in custody and was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Muskoka on Wednesday (Oct. 5).

Police said the identity of the victim was being withheld.
