West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is back in the baby business

As Prissy the slave, played by Butterfly McQueen, famously said in the classic movie, Gone With The Wind, “I don’t know nothin’ ’bout birthin’ babies.”
However, the medical folks at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby know plenty about “birthin’ babies” but the problem is they haven’t been able to.
In December 2021, the hospital has been sending expectant moms to St. Catharines Hospital simply due to staff shortages caused by the pandemic.
On Monday (October 3), they finally started taking patients back to their obstetrics ward, as well as saw midwives return to the posts.
It didn’t take long as by 1:41 pm, expectant mom Roopa Johny and her husband Paul Sunny saw the birth of their Jonathan Paul – the first new baby the hospital has seen in months.
Before the pandemic, the hospital saw upwards of 700 babies born there ever year.
