Peel police officer committed no offence during takedown in Malton

The death of a Mississauga man after police arrived to provide medical assistance is the subject of an investigation by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

The incident took place last November but the SIU only recently became involved when it was reported to them officially by Peel Regional Police.

According to the SIU, on November 22 of 2021 police were called to Vanrose St. to follow up on a report of a man in a vehicle.

When officers arrived, according to the SIU, they found the man unconscious and officers provided medical care until paramedics arrived on the scene.

The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The SIU, which is called in when police are involved where a death occurs, is not revealing any more about the circumstances other than the incident was reported to them by Peel Regional Police last month.

Two SIU investigators have been assigned to the case. They are asking for anyone with information about this case to contact them at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php
