A high school in Brampton has been evacuated and emergency crews are investigating an unknown substance in the building.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 4), Peel Regional Police say they were called to a high school in the area of Bramalea Rd. and Father Tobin Rd. for reports of an unknown substance.

A police spokesperson said officers received “complaints of an irritant” in the building, and it’s believed a substance was sprayed inside the school.

Police did not disclose the name of the school, however, Louise Arbor Secondary School is located at the corner of Bramalea Rd. and Father Tobin Rd.

Police said one student was assessed by Peel Paramedics but the student was released with no injuries.

Brampton Fire and Emergency Services were called in to investigate the unknown substance and said the incident is contained to the building.

The building has been ventilated by Brampton Fire, who said there was no threat to public safety.

Just after 2:15 p.m., police said students were returning to class. Police have not released details on what the substance may have been.

Residents are being asked to avoid the area if possible, and drivers should find alternate routes while emergency crews are on scene.
