The municipal election doesn’t take place until Oct. 24, but Mississauga voters can begin casting their ballots this weekend at City Hall.

Mississauga’s Civic Centre will serve as an advance polling location this Friday through Sunday (Oct. 7-9), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

More than 20 similar advance polling locations, including another at City Hall, will be set up across Mississauga the following week/weekend, allowing residents to vote from Oct. 13 to 16.

Most of those voting stations will be set up at community centres and libraries throughout the city.

Visit mississaugavotes.ca for specific details, including locations of the polling stations and times.

Meanwhile, City of Mississauga officials are urging those who plan to vote to check their information online and, if possible, register to vote prior to election night.

Officials say residents can use a Voter Registration Portal to do either or both of those things.

The portal allows residents to save time at the polls by updating their information on the Voter’s List or, if they are not on the Voter’s list, add their information to it.

“Taking a few minutes to verify this information now will help speed up the process at the polls. If voters confirm and update their information online ahead of time, they will not have to fill out additional paperwork at the polling location,” said Diana Rusnov, the City’s director of legislative services.

The City says the portal is easy to use. It allows residents to check their information by inputting their name and address to compare it with existing information on the Voters’ List.

From there, residents can either verify or update existing information, or add themselves provisionally if they were not on the list already.

Voters will be required to provide identification and proof of address at the polling location to verify the change or addition.

If eligible voters do not make the updates or additions to the list prior to voting, they can still do so at the polling location by completing the applicable form.

To be eligible to vote in the 2022 Mississauga Municipal Election, you must be:

  • a Canadian citizen
  • at least 18 years old
  • a resident of Mississauga
  • a non-resident, but you or your spouse own or rent property in Mississauga

Residents can find out who is running and where and when they can vote at mississaugavotes.ca.

Voter Notification Cards will be mailed out later this month.

To confirm voter information online, check out the City’s Voter Registration Portal.
