Brampton mayoral and council candidates are squaring off and making their case to voters at a series of debates this week.

The Brampton Board of Trade is hosting debates and discussions with candidates in the upcoming municipal election on Tuesday and Wednesday (Oct. 4 and Oct. 5).

The debates will be streamed live on the board’s Facebook page and see candidates engage with local businesses on topics including attracting talent and investment to Brampton, property taxes, the LRT and regional transit, post-pandemic economic recovery, and critical infrastructure, among others.

The debates start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday with candidates for mayor and city councillors, and will continue on Wednesday with candidates for regional councillors.

Taking part in the mayoral debate are incumbent Mayor Patrick Brown, city hall whistleblower Nikki Kaur, previous candidate for Regional Councillor and Peel Regional Chair, Vidya Sauger Gautam, and Tony Moracci.

The board says candidates Bob Singh and Prabh Kaur Mand did not respond to their invitation to the debate.

The municipal election is on Oct. 24. Advance voting will take place on Oct. 7, 8, 9, and again on Oct. 14 and 15.
