St. Paul Catholic School student Gabriel Perruccio is this year’s Police Chief for a Day winner.

Durham Police Chief Todd Rollauer surprised young Gabriel, a Grade 5 student, with a visit to his Whitby school today and called him up to the stage at an assembly in front of all his schoolmates.

Hundreds of Grade five students from across Durham Region submitted essays for the contest and 10 finalists were selected. The finalist visited DRPS Regional Headquarters to read their essays to a community panel of judges, including Chief Todd Rollauer, members of the Police Services Board and members of the Police Appreciation Dinner and Awards Night (PADAN) Committee. The community panel then deliberated and selected Gabriel as this year’s winner.

Gabriel will serve as Chief for a Day on Tuesday, October 25 and will be a guest of honour at the Annual PADAN awards night on October 27 at Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility in Ajax.
