No end in sight for 12-hour police standoff in Mississauga hospital

It has been 12 hours since an unknown person in distress barricaded themselves in the Mississauga Credit Valley hospital, and there remains no end in sight to the resulting police standoff.
Peel Regional Police got a 911 call a little after 7:30 a.m. September 30. They sent a heavy police presence to the area of Eglinton Ave. and Erin Mills Pkwy. to cordon off the hospital.
The officers on scene closed down Credit Valley Rd. from Metcalf Ave. to Eglinton Ave. Police announced the standoff about an hour later shortly before 9 a.m.
At 9:30 police reported this was an isolated and contained incident. “Information is limited and the investigation is ongoing,” they said at the time.
Police were radio silent for nearly two more hours before finally announcing there was a barricaded person in the hospital. At 11 a.m. police confirmed the individual, who they have not described, was in crisis and negotiators were on the scene.
Two hours after that, around 1:30, police confirmed the person was alone and that no one had been injured. Residents remained advised to stay clear of the area. However, the hospital’s emergency department was still operating.

Again police went quiet this time for the longest period yet. No updates came until nearly 6 p.m. However, while police confirmed what they had announced previously they shared no new details.
They said Peel police “recognizes the public need for information when an incident occurs in our community. However it is critical for our service to validate and confirm the information and carefully evaluate potential risks prior to releasing it to the public.”
They additionally said the situation was still ongoing and no one has been injured. They still advise residents to keep clear of the hospital though the ER remains open.
