Names of most recent Hamilton traffic fatality victims released

The names of two people who died after the car they were in was T-boned by a suspected impaired driver in downtown Hamilton on Monday.
Hamilton Police (HPS) confirm John William Wignall, 57, of Toronto and Ryan Valentim, 38, of Hamilton are the victims of the fatal collision that occurred in the intersection of John and Young streets in the Corktown neighbourhood on Sunday night (Sept. 25). The collision raised Hamilton’s toll of traffic deaths to 18 so far this year, which is six more than in all of 2021.
The police said the crash remains under investigation and that they had received permission from Wignall and Valentim’s families to publish their names.
“The families have requested privacy while they grieve their loss,” said HPS, who released a handout photo of Wignall.

The 20-year-old suspect was fleeing from a Hamilton police officer began before he crashed into the car the victims were riding in. They appeared to be travelling at a high rate of speed when they crashed into the car. (Video of the crash was publicized by CHCH-TV.)
Because there was a police interaction before the deaths, the Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating police conduct.
Mouhamad Al-Jalmoud, age 20, has been charged with impaired operation causing death. His first court appearance in response to the charges was on Tuesday.
