DRIFF Fall Festival opens tonight in Whitby with double bill

The DRIFF Fall Film Festival, weekend full of inspired films from Canada and across the world, kicks off tonight at Whitby’s Centennial Building with an opening gala, followed by the opening night screenings of the short film Blind Spots (Germany) and the feature film Stay the Night (Canada).
Blind Spots, directed by Luis Schubert, is an eight-minute film about the shooting of a sex scene, which triggers a conflict between an intimacy coordinator and the director on a film set.
Stay the Night is a 94-minute feature directed by Renuka Jeyapalan and starring Andrea Bang (Netflix’s Kim’s Convenience), Joe Scarpellino, Humberly González (Netlfix’s Ginny & Georgia), and Ray Ablack (Netlfix’s Maid, Ginny & Georgia).
At a time when dating apps and casual hook-ups are the new ‘romance standard,’ reserved and very single Grace feels like an outcast. But when she meets Carter Stone, a professional athlete on the outs who has his own decision to make, she wonders if maybe Carter is the perfect solution to her problem. After their first attempt at a one-night stand goes awry, they end up spending the evening walking and talking through the streets of Toronto, leading them to a connection neither of them expected.
Doors open at 6:45 and the film begins at 7:30. Tickets are $10.

Friday night the festival moves to St. Francis Centre For Community, Arts & Culture (78 Church Street South) in Ajax for another double bill, with a full day of programming scheduled for the final day of the festival from the Biltmore Theatre in Oshawa.
