COVID-19 numbers in Oshawa, Pickering and Durham Region take sharp uptick in wrong direction

COVID-19 numbers, after months of tracking downwards, took a nasty uptick last week with all signs but one headed in the wrong direction.
The one good news is the number of deaths fell from an unusually high of three last period to a more comfortable zero for the week of September 18-24.
All other numbers went up. There were 287 new cases of the virus (from 252); 38 COVID patients in hospital with five in ICU (from 37 and two), the weekly incidence rate went up to 39.1 per 100,000 (from 34.4); and the per cent positivity rate rose slightly to 8.8 per cent (from 8.7).
Outbreaks in institutions such as retirement homes, hospitals and long term care homes are also up to 13 from 10 and two of those outbreaks were in local hospitals, versus zero during the previous period.
