Mississauga again ranks among top 20 best business locations in Canada

For the sixth consecutive year, Mississauga has been ranked among the top 20 best locations in Canada in which to get business done.
The rankings were compiled by U.S.-based Site Selection magazine, which published the results in its September issue.
The City of Mississauga’s Economic Development Office (EDO) is highlighted alongside other top groups from across the country in the article. The recipients, who also include groups in Oakville, Hamilton, Toronto, Brantford, Kingston, London, Sarnia/Lambton, Waterloo and Windsor, are not ranked one through 20, but instead listed collectively as among Canada’s best.
Magazine officials say Mississauga’s EDO and others in the top 20 are always trying to position their municipalities as one of Canada’s Best Locations in terms of business. The ranking is based on corporate end-user facility investment, job creation data and the magazine’s own research.
“Our consistent top ranking demonstrates that Mississauga is an economic engine for the province and the country. We remain a prime location for business and investment, and our pathway to recovery is paved in strong economic growth and responsible spending,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie in an email statement. “Our Economic Development team has done an outstanding job in creating an environment where businesses of all sizes can grow, scale and thrive. Our highly-skilled workforce, diverse population and strategic location in the heart of the GTHA make us an ideal location to attract and retain businesses that contribute to our highly-diversified economy.”
The 2022 results are based on data from January 2021 to June 2022, including:

- project capital investment per capita
- job creation per capita
- subjective analyses of website resources, programming and outreach efforts
“Receiving this recognition from Site Selection validates that we are doing the right things to attract and support the growth and longevity of businesses,” said Mississauga EDO director Bonnie Brown.
“The Economic Development team, with the support of Council, remains committed to providing our business community with the programs and resources needed, while continuing to build upon the strategic priorities that will guide the city’s path towards sustained economic prosperity.”
In recognizing Mississauga, Site Selection quoted Citibank Canada site president Ian Ng, who commented earlier that “we’re able to hire top-notch professionals from myriad cultures and backgrounds, which ensures that we look at things from all different angles, which is vital to the success of our business.”
Recent Mississauga projects at Bombardier, Henkel Canada, Amazon, GSK and BoomerangFX were also noted by the magazine.
City officials say Mississauga has the right assets that businesses need to grow. City officials add that in order to support a growing and sustainable economy, the City is helping to shape dynamic mixed-use communities that create new development and employment opportunities, including:
- Downtown Mississauga, a dynamic urban neighbourhood with over 18 million planned square feet of development including office development
- on the waterfront, Lakeview Innovation District, as part of the 177-acre Lakeview Village, that offers over 1.5 million square feet of available employment space that will create up to 9,000 new jobs
Being among Canada’s 10 largest cities, Mississauga is the only one that ranks number five or higher in industry size and concentration across seven key sectors, City officials note:
