A convenience store clerk and a customer may have brought down justice after detaining a man suspected of trying to rob the store.

A man entered the Kings Milk on King St. E. in Bowmanville late around 5 p.m. on September 26. He was armed with a brick and knife and demanded cash.

The clerk fought off the suspect, suffering serious injuries as he did so. A customer joined forces with the clerk to keep hold of the suspect.

By the time police showed up the clerk and the customer had a suspect restrained in the store for them. As police took the suspect into custody, the clerk was taken to the hospital.

George Lund, 37, stands accused of armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon and wearing a disguise with intent to break the law. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

Anyone with information pertinent to the investigation can call the Durham Police Robbery Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5355 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
