Speeding and failing to stop main offences in Milton, Oakville, Burlington during Project Safe Start

Speeding and failing to stop at a stop sign were the two most common charges laid by Halton police during this year’s Project Safe Start road safety initiative in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills.
The Project Safe Start campaign ran from Aug 29 to Sept. 9 and focused on education, awareness and high-visibility enforcement of traffic laws throughout the region.
Over the course of the two-week initiative the top traffic offences were:
- Disobey stop sign (655 charges laid and warnings issued)
- Speeding (605 charges laid and warnings issued)
- Speeding – community safety one (112 charges laid)
Halton officers issued a total of 1,718 charges laid and 1,274 warnings issued during this year’s project.
Project Safe Start has run for 15 years and has served as a highly visible reminder for drivers to follow speed limits, remain alert for pedestrians and cyclists and to heed extra caution around school zones. This year, our officers committed nearly 1,500 hours to Safe Start education and enforcement.
Residents are reminded that they can file driving complaints or request enforcement of a particular area through the Halton police website.
