Halton Hills Climate Action hosting walk to protest Highway 413

This upcoming weekend, Halton Hills Climate Action will be hosting a walk through the farms and conservation areas that are being threatened by Highway 413.
The event called the Harvest Ontario Walk to Stop Highway 413, will take place on Oct. 1 and will feature local groups from different regions that have coordinated walks at various locations across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
For Halton residents, the local walk will be a 5km loop and will begin and end at Freestyle Farm, located at 8768 Winston Churchill Blvd.
Most walks on Oct. 1 will begin around 10:00 a.m. including the one planned to begin at Freestyle Farm.
Those who wish to walk half the route will have the option to stop at Maple Lodge chicken shop and be shuttled back to the parking at the starting point.
Highway 413, a project that is being proposed by the Ontario government, otherwise known as the GTA West Corridor, consists of a mega highway that would be paved over farmland, forests and wetlands. It would be built roughly 15km north of Highway 407 and would stretch over 50km from the 401 in Halton.

Additionally, according to Environmental Defence, it would add more than 17 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
As a result, several members of the community from Halton Hills, Milton and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) have gathered multiple times in an attempt to “stop the 413.”
