Three Hamilton schools under ‘hold-and-secure’ after gunshot reports

Three Hamilton schools were placed under “hold-and-secure” on Monday after reports of gunshots downtown.
Police tweeted at 3:04 p.m. that Bernie Custis, Prince of Wales, and St. Ann elementary schools would be held due to their proximity to the alleged gunshots in the Sherman Ave. and Cannon St. area.
Hold-and-secure is different than a lockdown. It’s used by police when there is a threat in the general vicinity of a school. The outer doors of the school are locked while classes continue, and students are generally considered safe indoors.
The incident occurred right around bell time for the three schools, which ranges from 2:50 p.m. to 3:10 p.m.
Update: Hamilton Police tweeted at 3:19 p.m. that the hold-and-secure has been lifted and the scene has been secured.
Hamilton Police have lifted the Hold & Secure at the schools.
