5 new restaurants that opened in September in Mississauga

Cafe Panchita Mississauga

The month of September was a busy one for restaurant entrepreneurs in Mississauga as more than 10 new restaurants were reported open in the city.

With so many new venues opening, there is no lack of diversity with flavours ranging from Mediterranean fusion to Spanish breakfast.

Residents are encouraged to try out new locations in the city such as Calle Cuisine Mediterranean Fusion, Cafe Panchita, and Seau de Crabe.

Cafe Panchita 

Café Panchita is located at 152 Lakeshore Rd. E. and specializes in Spanish breakfast.

It offers all-day breakfast, a robust espresso beverage menu, a variety of salads and, a full artisanal bakery. The bakery has brioche croissants, pastries and specialty breads such as sourdough, and homemade sodas.

Café Panchita may be new, but it comes from a well-known face in Mississauga. It’s owned and operated by Chef Humberto Sanchez, who is already acclaimed for running the Catalina Bar.


Calle Cuisine Mediterranean Fusion

Calle Cuisine Mediterranean Fusion is located at 6277 Mississauga Rd. and offers Halal dishes inspired by the food of Egypt, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Morocco and beyond

It has homemade bread and pitas, along with tapas-style Mediterranean dishes.

The menu boasts hearty sandwiches with fillings such as Romesco chicken, kofta, sausages, and vegetarian crispy fava bean patties. There is also peri peri chicken, hummus starters and seafood dishes.

The restaurant features artistic Mediterranean backdrops for dining in but a drive-through service will also be available for quick, on-the-go Halal and Mediterranean cuisine options.


Seau de Crabe

Quebec seafood boil restaurant Seau de Crabe opened its first location in Ontario at 670 Eglinton Ave.W.

A seafood boil is an experience. It generally consists of fish and shellfish along with vegetables such as corn boiled together in a seasoned broth.

At Seau de Crabe, patrons can choose their “bucket” — there is lobster tail, shrimp, snow crab and mussels. Seau de Crabe translates to crab bucket. There are two sauce options – original or cajun.

You can pick your sides such as potatoes, corn on the cob or rice. And the food arrives in a plastic bag.


Yum’s Kitchen

Yum’s Kitchen is located inside of the Deer Run Shopping Plaza at 4040 Creditview Rd., unit number 21. They serve classic Vietnamese Banh Mi as well as delicious desserts and drinks.

Some unique menu items served by Yum’s Kitchen are the tapioca cendol coconut dessert, iced Nutella smoothie, five spice pork belly banh mi, and shrimp mango salad.


Shawerma Plus

Shawerma Plus is from Waterloo and considers itself a quick service restaurant, serving both chicken and beef shawarma wraps at their location at 4700 Ridgeway Dr., Unit 67.

There are falafel, lamb kebob and shish tawook chicken wraps. Shawarma plates with hummus and salads are also on the menu.

A specialty plate at the restaurant called “Micho Nachos” combines chicken shawarma on fried pita chips, topped with tabbouleh, garlic mayo and tahini.

Founders Asem Ghabra (award-winning chef) and Baraat Khudeir first opened in 2012 in Waterloo, and won reader’s choice, Trip Advisor and other awards in Kitchener-Waterloo.

They have since expanded in Waterloo and now have plans to open locations across Ontario including London, Kirkland Lake, Port Elgin and Kitchener.
