86-year-old man charged after car strikes person waiting for Hamilton bus

Tensions in the Middle-East could reverberate in Hamilton, police say

An 86-year-old man from Hamilton has been charged with careless driving after a person was struck by an out-of-control car and seriously injured while sitting and waiting for a bus in the downtown area earlier this spring.

Hamilton Police say the incident unfolded on the evening of April 14 when a Ford Mustang was travelling eastbound on Main St. E.

After passing James St. S., the Mustang suddenly veered to the right and mounted the sidewalk, police say, moments later striking the person as they sat at a bus stop.

The person suffered serious leg injuries, police say.

A second person at the scene escaped unharmed.

The driver of the car, an 86-year-old Hamilton man, was not hurt. He is charged with careless driving causing bodily harm.

Police have not released his name.
