Special weather statement in effect in southern Ontario packing 70 km winds

A wind warning is in effect for Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon, Burlington and Halton Hills.

Environment Canada says to expect northwesterly winds gusting between 70 to 80 km/h starting on Tuesday afternoon.

While the strong winds are expected to weaken by midnight, the gusts could toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Residents in the affected communities should take precautions as officials say there may be local power outages as a result of the wind storm.

The wind warning comes after a travel advisory due to a spring snowstorm on Monday that caused reduced visibility on highways across Peel Region.
